Climbing for a Cure – Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa
August 3-12, 2012
Please sponsor me as I climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa to raise money to advance education, research and therapies for the children affected by Sanfilippo Syndrome.
My two children Ryan (7 years old) and Brayden (4 years old) Kapes, have been diagnosed with MPS Type III-A, better known as Sanfilippo Syndrome, which is a genetic lysosomal storage diseases (LSD) caused by the body’s inability to produce specific enzymes. Normally, the body uses enzymes to break down and recycle materials in cells. In individuals with MPS and related diseases, the missing or insufficient enzyme prevents the proper recycling process, resulting in the storage of materials in virtually every cell of the body. As a result, cells do not perform properly and cause progressive damage throughout the body, including the heart, bones, joints, respiratory system and central nervous system. These children usually only live to be 10-15 years old. In the USA you can text donations by texting CLIMB to 72727 or simply use the Team Sanfilippo donation link from this site. Follow our blog that will launch shortly.
